Each week on Women’s Health news, we’re learning how different women manage their health alongside their careers and other work.
This week, meet Mikhara Ramsing, social entrepreneur and founder of Miks Chai and Ethnic LGBT+.
To support her wellbeing, Ramsing has completed half marathons, open water swims and is preparing for her first triathlon.
Alongside running two social enterprises in the youth mental health space, Ramsing also understands prioritizing her physical wellbeing. She starts with a challenge to herself, then follows through by finding ways to train that make it enjoyable, and often supporting a charitable cause along the way.
Ramsing also shares how she never starts the day with emails, and the power of spending the first hour that you wake up outside.

In the morning, I…
Always make sure to never start the first hour of my day with emails. It’s often the first thing on my mind when I wake up – a task list forms and I feel tempted to just get it done but I know that’s not what I want my first waking hour to be. So I very purposefully spend my first hour outside. I walk my dog around the yard, sit by the dam and do some breathing exercises then water any little plants that need it. This is how I spend the first hour of my day every weekday.
My exercise routine includes…
Setting myself a challenge and then training in ways I find enjoyable. Over the years this has involved running my first 10K to running my first half marathon, swimming my first 1.6K open water swim to signing up for my first triathlon. I’m currently excited about competing in my first trail run. I often try to raise money for a purpose in the lead up to the event which keeps me motivated.
My favorite workout is…
Walking and hiking. I love meandering for hours in Australia’s varied bush settings. It’s a remarkable, old country and I have had the privilege of exploring 70,000KM of it over the past five years including hiking in most National Parks. I particularly love learning about native flora and fauna, so much so, I started a YouTube Channel about it -The Unexpected Bushwoman, you can check it out here.
I find balance in…
Spending a good amount of my day outdoors as I do indoors. My most frequent exercise comes from the daily gardening, the house renovations my partner and I like to undertake to play with the dog. I also really value journalling, a practice I have kept with infrequency over the years and find so restorative for my mind. Making a cup of chai is also a process I find very enjoyable and relaxing, my grandmother’s chai was always a place of comfort for me and I wanted to share that with the world through my tea for mental health company – Miks Chai. I always make sure there’s time in the day for a cuppa with my wife, to catch up and reflect and just enjoy hearing about each other’s day.
On health, I encourage women to…
Find activities that they can happily do with consistency, such as taking that first hour of the day for them or including loved ones, be it the pet or kids, in an exercise pattern. Do what works for you, when it works for you and make the time.
