Ghost Actor Gianni Paolo Shares His Workout

Gianni Paolo, the actor you know from Starz’s gritty Power series and its spin-off Power Book II: Ghost, doesn’t work out in the gym to build muscle for a body you see in a superhero movie or high-octane Movie would see action thriller. He has other goals in mind when he trains.

“I just want to feel good on set,” he told the MH crew when we stopped by the Zoo Culture gym in Woodland Hills, California to check on his routine. “There’s nothing in particular that I really need to be in shape for – well, except for a sex scene. Spoiler!”

But Paolo sells empty. He goes on to say that he has some more physically challenging moments as his Brayden Weston character on the show, and admits that being in good shape helps when “there are scenes where I’m photographing people or something in particular.” must do where there is a lot of action. ” A completely normal day in the office.

Exercising is not just about how he looks or how his body feels. Paolo also believes very much in the mental aspect of training. “When you’re in good shape, you’re in a good mood. They go hand in hand, so that’s what I really focus on at the gym.”

The actor did not bring a trainer to filming, but he follows a specific training protocol based on German Volume Training (GVT). The heavy-duty program has a simple, brutal design – you do 10 sets of 10 reps of the biggest exercises in your repertoire (think bench press, squat, etc.) with relatively short pauses. The idea is to overload your muscles with all of these reps and stimulate growth. While this version of GVT might work for Paolo, we recommend that you only try the protocol if you are a seasoned strength athlete and / or check in with a strength trainer first.

Paolo doesn’t just train to build muscle – he trains to focus that strength with MMA conditioning exercises and sparring, which he calls “the best of cardio.” For anyone involved in martial arts and boxing, the actor has one simple piece of advice. “Just go to your local gym. I think the hardest thing in the world for me personally was the first day of going to the gym.” Once you get started, he says, it’s easy to fall in love with the workout.
