The right antics of Sununu, Executive Council
Seeing the New Hampshire Executive Board behave like Keystone Cops would be fun if real lives weren’t hurt by their gimmicks. They voted to defuse women’s health services and then performed a finger-back moonwalk a few days later to apologize for their poor vote by blaming the Department of Health for not providing enough information .
Meanwhile, Governor Chris Sununu is speechless because he has to explain her and his antics. The self-proclaimed “Pro-Choice” governor signed what he called “common sense” anti-abortion law, and now his duplicity makes him stutter, “We can fix it!” The fact is, he doesn’t have a club big enough for all of the political problems that he and his friends have created for themselves.
What I want to know is why a bunch of old white men are so against funding women’s health? Is It Really About Abortion? Or is it about the provision of services to women in general, and women of color in particular, who are disproportionately affected by these cuts?
I think the abortion controversy is a right-wing proxy war against people of color. Much like President Richard Nixon’s “war on drugs”, white racists have a new, divisive distraction that can make them appear virtuous while suppressing and making “others” our sisters and daughters.
I think the New Hampshire people have to wake up with the Republicans in Concord. Whether it’s women’s rights, teaching the truth in schools, or trying to do what’s right for life on the planet, New Hampshire is moving backwards as our more progressive neighbors engage in the present and look to the future.

A moral crisis
Is there an immigration crisis in the US? Tens of thousands of refugees from some of the poorest countries in the world live on our southern border. Amid political blame, we reject America’s historic commitment to asylum and choose instead to be inhuman, flying people handcuffed back to Haiti, pushing people back to Mexico, or imprisoning people in camps.
If Bangladesh can host nearly 1 million Rohingya refugees, Pakistan can host more than 1.4 million Afghan refugees, Germany can host 1 million Syrian refugees, and Jordan can host more than half a million Syrians, then there is no immigration crisis in the US. We have a moral crisis.

Do We Really Need Nurses Who Neglect Science?
I know there is a huge need for health workers, but I have to wonder if the lack of nursing students who oppose the COVID-19 vaccine is really a loss escape, ”September 28). Do we need nurses who neglect science and don’t care enough about getting vaccinated, if only to protect others?

Ignore climate change fires
Lisa Benson’s September 23 editorial cartoon in which President Joe Biden ignored the fires around him was amusing in ways the cartoonist certainly wasn’t intended.
Because of climate change, our planet is burning up. President Biden takes action despite Republicans ignoring the climate fire or even pouring gasoline on it.

Bring the outhouse back
My idea for Newport Middle High School in terms of the broken bathrooms would be to add a couple of outbuildings or add a couple of portable toilets (“TikTok Trend Vandalism Closes Bathrooms at Newport Middle High School,” Sep 25).
I bet there will be a lot of respect for the indoor pools by spring.
