Two new studies demonstrate men’s health benefits of Tongkat ali

HP Ingredients (Bradenton, FL) proprietary ingredient LJ100 from Tongkat ali (Eurycoma longifolia) has been the subject of two new, recently published studies demonstrating the ingredient’s benefits for healthy aging and men’s fitness. In the first study published in Maturitas1, 45 men with androgen deficiency in aging men (ADAM) were divided into four groups: 1) control + placebo, 2) control + Eurycoma longifolia (200 mg), 3) simultaneous training + placebo , 4) simultaneous training + Eurycoma longifolia (200 mg). The parallel training consisted of three 60-minute units per week. During the six-month study, researchers measured testosterone levels and rated erectile and sexual function using the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) and the Aging Male Scale (AMS) at baseline, one month, four months, and six months.

The results showed that both Group 3 and Group 4 showed improvements in erectile function, 4.87% and 15.21%, respectively, but the combination of concurrent exercise and Eurycoma longifolia showed the most significant improvements in erectile function. Sexual satisfaction improved significantly in group 2 by 29% and in group 4 by 34%, while sexual desire in group 4 increased significantly by 235%. The researchers found that testosterone influenced changes in sexual desire. After six months, testosterone levels increased by 48.4% in group 2, by 29.33% in group 3 and by 48% in group 4. Compared to Group 1, Group 2 had 55% higher testosterone levels after six months.

In the second study published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice2, which included the same cohort, subjects were divided into four groups: 1) control, 2) Eurycoma longifolia, 3) simultaneous training, and 4) simultaneous training (CT) with Eurycoma longifolia. The researchers measured muscle strength, cardiorespiratory fitness, anthropometry, and testosterone and lipid profiles at baseline, one month, four months and six months.

The results showed that the peak isokinetic torque of the knee extensors – a measure of muscle strength – increased by 14% in the CT group and by 17% in the CT + Eurycoma longifolia group. Peak isokinetic knee flexion torque increased only in the CT and Eurycoma longifolia groups. In all participants, testosterone levels correlated with the isokinetic peak torque of knee extensors and flexion. In addition, patients showed reduced ADAM symptoms on CT (27.3%) and CT + Eurycoma longifolia (36.1%).

“These two studies collectively confirm our previous research on LJ100 in men, which is compelling news for formulators,” said Annie Eng, CEO of HP Ingredients, in a press release. “As more men become proactive about their health and no longer feel ashamed of taking action to support their sexual prowess and masculinity, LJ100 is an effective tool for this ever-growing audience.”

“HP Ingredients’ slogan is’ Where Science Never Sleeps’ to improve your life and wellbeing,” added Hame Persaud, Executive Vice President of HP Ingredients.
