Imagine this: you’re dancing on the beach with one of Debbie Gibson’s backup dancers, or maybe you’re getting fit under the guidance of Andy Cohen’s trainer. The best part? You didn’t leave Long Island to make it happen.
The NY Fit Festival returns to Long Beach on September 25th. This year’s list includes more than 60 providers and over 30 fitness classes, lectures, workshops and other activities.
The day starts on Edwards Boulevard (where Riptides is on the boardwalk) at 9:00 a.m. and continues until 3:00 p.m., ending with a barre and beer class at 11:00 p.m. at the nearby Bright Eye Beer Company.
For the first time in its four-year history, co-founders Colette Lee Morales, certified fitness trainer, and Ingrid Dodd, publicist, are opening the festival to children aged 12 and over. Also new: a family training entitled “Stronger Together” under the direction of David Freeman, who graced several front pages, including Men’s Health, and his wife Mechelle, 2021 Olympic athlete and 2008 Olympic participant.
The expected turnout this year is “a million dollar question,” says Morales. The classes are filled according to the first-come-first-serve principle and each upper limit is limited to a different number of participants.
Mariel Hunerberg, a participant who became a trainer, says that changes are made every year to better serve participants, such as: B. Halving the duration of each class. “It’s kind of like speed dating of fitness,” she says of the 20-minute classes.
“If you pack up your schedule, you can probably take seven or eight hours throughout the day. That would be a lot, you will be really exhausted, but you could do it, ”she says. Classes can overlap with others that pique your interest, so plan accordingly.
